How to get a customer service job in the UK

No degree required. The vast majority of customer service roles hire on attitude, communication skills, and a calm manner under pressure. A good CV that shows any previous people-facing experience — even retail, hospitality, or volunteering — is enough.

Remote customer service is one of the most accessible career paths in the UK right now. Companies like Amazon, Teleperformance, Sitel, and hundreds of SaaS companies hire remote support agents across the UK with no prior specific experience. They train on their products and tools.

Career progression is real. Starting as a support agent and progressing to team lead, then manager, then Head of CX is a common path. Customer Success (B2B CS) pays significantly more than generalist customer service and is often a lateral move after 1–2 years in support. Use the salary checker to understand what you should be earning at each level.

Volume matters. Customer service jobs are competitive at some companies (SaaS CS roles especially) and easy to get at others (call centres, retail). Apply to a mix. Autoply applies overnight so you can go broad without spending hours on individual applications.
